I love giving massages, and I really miss being able to do it. I enjoy the rapport that I build with clients and sharing my passion with them. I love being able to take someone away from the stresses of their life and show them what it feels like to feel entirely relaxed. I love making someone feel like they are the only thing that matters, just for an hour.
It’s an overused phrase, but I really do get the chance to make a real connection with my clients. I see tears from those upset about events happening in their private life. Events they can tell me about or leave at the door, whichever they prefer. I see the beaming smiles on faces of those that have been before and returned for more. The questions that people have when they aren’t quite sure about what they should expect. The different approaches to take in terms of whether the client wants conversation or silence. Dispelling myths clients have because of poor advice or massages received previously.
Once the treatment has ended clients are often very keen to learn how I know what to do, whether I plan each routine, etc. and I really enjoy giving an insight. I also hear people talk of wanting to offer massages themselves, either to a partner, or to a relative. I find the most common reason why people don’t go through with this is because they are worried they will cause pain, or because they worry they’ll run out of ideas after the first few minutes!
I’m now taking this aspect of my work a step further and teaching massage to couples and those who want to bring along a friend and practice on each other. I will be adding more detail to the website soon, ready for when I can get back to seeing you all again!
